My first human portrait.
The skin has always been a little scary to me, I guess that's why I have always been comfortable painting my furry friends. A friend saw this photograph on my facebook page and encouraged me to paint it. So I played with a quick doodle and decided to give it a try. My model is a little girl who I adore and I was very familiar with her beautiful little face. Surprisingly... I actually had fun painting her! Now I love the challenge of painting people!
Angus might be small... but his personality is huge!
This is a small 8x10 watercolor painted on Arches 140lb cold press paper. This photo has so much personality that I actually felt I knew this little guy. I love the slight tilt of his head and direct eye contact. Because of the small size I eliminated the drawing and went straight to color. I wanted to convey the feel that Angus is actually looking and listening to you at the same time you are looking at his painting.
I enjoy painting unique and lively paintings, inspired from photos sent by the people who treasure them.
